Question 1

How do I carpool in Quebec?

Accepted Answer

Download Allons covoiturage (iOS or Android), enter your destination, time window, and acceptable detour. The app automatically matches drivers and passengers, suggests an optimal meetup point, and notifies you when a match is found. It's built for carpooling in Quebec: events, attractions, ski resorts, and everyday trips.

Question 2

Which carpooling app should I use in Quebec?

Accepted Answer

Allons covoiturage is the Quebec smart-matching app: you don't post an ad and wait. Matches are based on origin, destination, schedule, and detour. You also earn points redeemable with local partners. Designed here, for trips here.

Question 3

Is Allons covoiturage free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Downloading the app and carpooling is free for drivers and passengers. Organizations (events, attractions, companies) have plans tailored to their rollout.

Question 4

Can I carpool to a festival, concert, or event in Quebec?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Allons is built for event carpooling: festivals, conferences, competitions, shows. People heading to the same place at the same time are matched automatically, which eases parking and cuts GHG.

Question 5

Does carpooling work to Quebec ski resorts?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Allons partners with the Quebec Ski Areas Association and regional tourism associations. You can carpool to Tremblant, Saint-Sauveur, Bromont, Sutton, Orford, and several other participating resorts.

Question 6

Where in Quebec is Allons covoiturage available?

Accepted Answer

Allons is deployed in Lanaudière, the Laurentians, Montérégie, the Eastern Townships, and the greater Quebec City region (Destinations partagées). You can also leave from elsewhere in Quebec, including Greater Montreal, toward these partner destinations.

Question 7

Carpooling or car-sharing: what's the difference?

Accepted Answer

Carpooling means sharing a trip that's already happening (a driver and passengers). Car-sharing means renting a vehicle. Allons is a carpooling app, not a car-sharing service.

Question 8

How do rewards work?

Accepted Answer

Every time you complete a carpool trip with Allons covoiturage, you earn points called Greenpoints - a bit like loyalty points. You can then redeem them for products or discounts from partners in the “Rewards” section.

Question 9

Are all trips rewarded?

Accepted Answer

Yes.

Question 10

How do I claim a reward?

Accepted Answer

You choose a product in the rewards shop, redeem it with your Greenpoints, then go to “My purchases” to reveal a code that you show the merchant to redeem it.

Question 11

Where can I see proposed matches and pending match attempts?

Accepted Answer

All of that appears on the application's home screen as cards you can accept or decline; older or declined matches show up in your profile.

Question 12

How do I pay for my carpool? / How do I get paid for my carpool?

Accepted Answer

For now, the payment system isn’t live yet, so you need to pay the driver directly. The application will offer an integrated payment system (like an e-wallet): the passenger pays in the application when accepting the trip, and the money is automatically transferred to the driver the next day.

Question 13

How do I get in touch with other carpoolers?

Accepted Answer

There’s built-in messaging in the application, accessible via a chat bubble icon, so you can message the person you’re carpooling with without sharing your phone number.

Question 14

What do the symbols on the map mean?

Accepted Answer

Each symbol represents a step in the trip: for example a small car for the driver’s starting point, a walking person for the passenger, and a flag for the final destination.

Question 15

Where can I increase or decrease my maximum detour times?

Accepted Answer

You set this each time you create a new carpool request, and also in your profile - you choose how many minutes of detour you accept. Detour minutes are calculated based on your role. If you’re a driver, the time is calculated as if you were driving. If you’re a passenger, it’s calculated as if you were walking.

Question 16

How do matches work?

Accepted Answer

When you request a carpool, the application automatically compares your trip and schedule with other users to suggest compatible people; if you both accept, an official match is created.

Question 17

What is the Suggestions feature?

Accepted Answer

It’s a step where you “like” a few destinations you’re interested in (a bit like a dating application), and the application then automatically creates carpool requests to those places for you - without you having to organize everything yourself.
