Getting to Mont-Mégantic by carpool

How to reach Mont-Mégantic National Park (Notre-Dame-des-Bois) by carpool: typical trips, meetup points, parking, transit, and Allons rewards.

Mont-Mégantic National Park sits at the heart of the world’s first International Dark Sky Reserve. People come for the ASTROLab, the summit observatory, the high-altitude trails and nights so dark the Milky Way feels within reach.

It’s a destination you choose on purpose — which is exactly what makes it ideal for carpooling: the people who go often leave the same evening, in the same direction. Share a car from Sherbrooke or Lac-Mégantic and the stargazing adventure starts on the road.

Suggested meetup points

The Allons covoiturage app finds a meetup point for you automatically — and here are a few suggestions if you want them.

  • Sherbrooke, Highway 10 / 108

The last big starting point before heading east. Consolidate cars here and leave together for the Haut-Saint-François.

  • Lac-Mégantic downtown

25 minutes from the park: the ideal meetup for ASTROLab evenings. A single car on the park road at night is easier for everyone.

  • Notre-Dame-des-Bois

The last village before the park: fill up, go over the plan, then head up the park road.

Access

From Montreal: Highway 10 to Sherbrooke, then Routes 108 and 212 toward Notre-Dame-des-Bois. Allow about 2 hours 30, and one of Quebec’s darkest skies awaits at the end. For ASTROLab evenings, go with two drivers: the ride home under the stars will be all the more enjoyable.

Parking

Sépaq lots at the visitor centre and at the ASTROLab. On popular evenings you meet up there, headlights off, eyes already turned skyward.

Public transit

The intercity bus reaches Lac-Mégantic, with few departures; Allons covers the 25 km to the stars. It’s far, it’s magical, and it’s meant to be shared.

Local FAQ

That’s about 5 hours of driving on top of the activity. Ideally, carpool from Sherbrooke, or stay overnight in the area to enjoy the sky to the fullest. If you do the round trip anyway, bring two drivers.
